when i walk down the street i don't expect to see:
old people in queues fighting for their rights
businessmen in suits treating their cars like tanks trying to get ahead
there's a young boy running loose on the street
is anyone in charge or emotional retreat
he might die today but at least he's got his independence
i lost mine with my childhood, didn't i
rise above the rest: it's easy if i try
write about the others: come on, pour my heart out now
treat you all like characters i'll get nowhere til i realise:
i'm part of this play as well, i've been pulled in too
trying to get ahead
spend a week on my ego just to get ahead
spend the money on my lessons: then i'll get the credit
one of these days i'll find i'm on the streets
you won't be laughing when you pick me from the floor
get ahead
when i walk down the street i don't expect to see:
old people in queues fighting for their rights
businessmen in suits treating their cars like tanks trying to get ahead
